Get a Comfortable Office Desk and Chair

These days, most of our working hours are spent at our desks. This is why it’s so important to have a comfortable desk and chair. You shouldn’t be constantly moving, stretching, or adjusting as you work – because you’ll find it hard to stay focused.

Get an office desk and chair that fit you perfectly and add a few pillows to the chair to make it more comfortable. Buy an ergonomic chair as it decreases pressure on your spine and reduces the chances of lower back pain. As you work, your feet should rest on the floor or on a foot rest.

Change the Lighting Fixtures

Lighting has the ability to affect mood, productivity, and alertness. Poor lighting can cause eyestrain, fatigue, and headaches. Bad lighting can also make you feel drowsy and irritable, making you unable to concentrate.

During the day, make the most of natural light by opening window treatments. In addition, use breezy sheers and not heavy curtains which block light and make your home office dark. If the room has a small window or none at all, get bright white bulbs that mimic natural light. Also add a desk lamp to your desk for task lighting.

An organized workspace that is devoid of clutter can boost your alertness and enable you to complete your tasks efficiently and on time. It frees you from stress-producing distractions. If your office is cluttered, you will feel overwhelmed and your stress levels may go up.

Set aside a specific day to clean your office and spend 10 minutes every morning putting things away and getting rid of unnecessary items.

Colors and scents can powerfully impact your mindset and mood. According to science, yellow colors inspire creativity, blue colors activate the mind, and green colors induce feelings of relaxation. But this varies from person to person. Choose colors that inspire and stimulate you and incorporate them into your home office.

You can also consider integrating scents that will help your mind to stay focused when it starts drifting off. Cinnamon and pine scents improve alertness, citrus and peppermint scents lift your spirits, and lavender relaxes your mind.
